Rebel Rebel, which opened in 2018 in Somerville's Bow Market, has raised over $20,000 for a new liquor license and a new, larger space for its sister business, "Wild Child," that will be "spitting distance" away from its old location, according to the wine bar's Nu Market fundraiser.
Donors to Rebel Rebel's plans to expand get more than just a sense of generosity, however, they also get 20% of their investment back in credits they can spend on products at the old or new location.
The bar's current space is cozy, with only 20 seats indoors and 20 seats outdoors, according to its website.
"From the moment I saw this teeny tiny wine bar bursting with awesomeness, I was intimidated," said one Yelp reviewer. "But Rebel Rebel has made it their mission to create a welcoming and inclusive space, and they're absolutely delivering."
The woman-owned shop offers more than just a glass of your favorite vintage, it keeps drinkers busy with events including queer knitting circles, trivia nights, tarot readings, and wine schools.
Donations will also allow the bar to expand its e-commerce capabilities, selling more wine to a larger area. Currently, the online shop offers a variety of bottles online, from a 2022 Vignoble Dauny 'Les Caillottes,' Sancerre priced at $32, to a $330 bottle of NV Marie Courtin 'Amphora' Blanc de Noirs, Côtes des Bars.
The bar is almost halfway to its $50,000 donation goal. Click here to see the fundraiser.
